Chapter 07
Notifications
Notifications are short, human-visible messages on the panel — a title and a body, meant to be read at a glance. Use them for status you want someone in the room to notice. Do not use them as a scrolling log dump.
Showing a notification
From the on-device interface or the USB control plane, supply a title, a message, and optionally how long the overlay should remain. The current scene (idle clock or countdown) stays underneath; the notify band sits on top until it is cleared.
While a notification is active, the decorative underlay shifts to a high-contrast motion pattern. That change is intentional: it keeps the alert readable without relying on hue alone.
Timed dismiss
When you set a duration, the overlay clears itself when the timer ends and the previous scene returns. If you omit a duration, the notification stays until someone clears it. Prefer short durations for transient events (“Wi‑Fi joined”, “fetch complete”) and longer or sticky messages only when a human must acknowledge them.
Clearing
Clear from the same control paths you used to show the message. Clearing is immediate: the overlay disappears and the base preference (clock or countdown) owns the panel again. Showing a new notification replaces the previous one; you do not stack multiple bands.
Eco sleep
If eco sleep has blanked the panel, showing a notificationwakes the display and presents the overlay. Notifications are never silently dropped while asleep — countdown and playlist state also keep running in memory. See Eco sleep.
